Following his admission, Gleick's resignation was accepted by the National Center for Science Education. His name appears to have been removed from a Task Force on Scientific Ethics at the American Geophysical Union (AGU), a prominent science organization.

Gleick declined to provide any additional information when contacted by FoxNews.com.

Heartland Institute president Joseph L. Bast blasted Gleick’s confession and actions, which he said put lives at risk and violated individual privacies.

"Gleick's crime was a serious one. The documents he admits stealing contained personal information about Heartland staff members, donors, and allies, the release of which has violated their privacy and endangered their personal safety,” Bast wrote in a statement posted Monday night to the group’s website.

The documents consist of climate policy statements, fundraising documents, board meeting notifications and even tax filings -- as well as a memo titled “Confidential Memo: 2012 Heartland Climate Strategy.” That memo, apparently the anonymous document that inspired Gleick to take action, describes plans to create an anti-global warming science campaign for grade schools that will “dissuad[e] teachers from teaching science.”

So does that make the lies that Heartland puts as a prominent "denier" any less untrue?

I am going to have to take issue with both of you . The big 4 in climatology are not nutcases . They are worse than that . They knowingly manipulated their research to produce a biased result . That is a breach of trust
of the most base order . That they knowingly did this is clearly demonstrated in the second set of climategate emails . Anyone who has perused them would know that .

I made no attack on a fellow viner.....My attack was against nutcase fool scientists who believe in the bull@!$%# lying crap global warming and the obvious hoax that it is....who then lie to the public and get certain people to believe in their nonsense lies and garbage.

you on the other hand...committed a coh violation.

you on the other hand...committed a coh violation.

what because of a use of profanity?

I made no attack on a fellow viner

Neither had I. I simply said @!$%# your hypocrisy.

Your argument about who you insulted is semantics. Many newsviners happen to be scientists who understand the data behind AGW. You twice now have made blanket slurs against these newsviners without any provocation or evidence. Or do you think that scientists don't use newsvine or that they are somehow apart from society, making it OK to make the statements you made?

Making blanket statements about subgroups of people is a CoH offense. Especially when you have nothing but your own prejudices to go on. Your opening statement was nothing more than a paranoid trolling slur. You failed immediately by bringing the discussion to the level of taunting bull@!$%# with your very first post and then had the gall to call for CoH. What kind of a response did you expect?

I'm sorry if you can't handle when someone calls you out on your own hypocrisy, which is made worse by you being the seeder. Next time get your story straight and lose the hyperbole.

Or delete this too, whatever you think makes your argument more valid.

        coh #1

        1. Above all else, respect others. Address issues and arguments and refrain from making personal attacks.

stating i was a hypocrite for calling for the coh is a personal attack.....if you are confused..now I cleared it up for you.

also..if making blanket statements is a coh offense..then there sure is a lot of coh offenses going on when people talk bad about republicans on here. I was specifically targeting the lying scientist who get the uneducated public to believe in AGW.

        peace

...the nutcase scientists who believe in global warming are lunatics...

That doesn't sound very specific to me.

Yes there is a lot of CoH violation, but when you seed an article you are held (or should be) to a higher standard.

Calling your statement hypocritical was right on no matter how you define the word. Your statements however, are based on prejudice.

oh for the love..hate this laptop..had a long response...just erased..

that said...I respect your views....kept up your other posts..just not the one that violated the coh. me stating that nutcase scientists....is not a coh violation as it is targeting no viners....as I know no viner scientists...let alone ones involved in the lying scam of AGW.

if you do not like my decision I encourage you to take up your case with the moderators. I respect your posts since...and believe all views are needed in a society to become greater...we need those who question and dissent.

            peace.

It's not defensible, nor was the hacking of email leading to the so called 'climategate.'

The only positive outcome might be if all this over-politicizing and chicanery (now by both sides it seems) leads the public to demand a more honest public discussion, but that seems unlikely. Now, let's not allow this lapse on the part of Gleick to detract from what was actually exposed. That is still the real story here. That seems fair since there were no repercussions on the part of the Anglia hackers, even though multiple follow-up investigations found no malfeasance on the part of the researchers. So let's see an investigation into the Heartland Institute and see if there was any malfeasance on their part. Tit for tat anyone?

So some dooofus at Heartland got an e-mail saying "send me this stuff" and the doofus stupidly sent it. So what?

Fox seemed to have a different ethics when people stole emails from Climate Scientist in England. Once again the highly selective outrage of Fox Noise. I have to suspect Fox has complete contempt for the long term memory of its audience.

One of the main differences is that Gleick is accused of more than just stealing documents . He is accused of forging documents . That is another level of violation if it is proved to be true .

Now THAT I absolutely guarantee won't be a part of even a phony civil litigation or phony prosecution. Heartland wouldn't dare.

They threw that out before they knew everything Glieck had and they had to do something to staunch the bleeding.

              nSZ:

Nah. If I have the narrative right, and I think I do, Glieck released the supposedly "forged" summary first, which is when Heartland screeched "Fake!"

Then he released the other batch of documents which Heartland concedes are genuine. And since the stipulated-genuine docs match up with the "forged" summary, that means the "forgery" is almost certainly genuine.

How'd he know what to put in the "forgery" that would match up with documents later admitted to be genuine?

Heartland obviously tossed "forgery" against the wall hoping it would stick not knowing that Glieck had or would have the supporting documents and knowing full well the document accurately reflected their board's thinking. So they knowingly lied. Think they want that tidbit in a civil litigation?
