Why is it whenever there is a call for compromise that it means compromising for less rights of the individual and more power to the government?
Take guns for an example. I have watched many interviews in regards to this. Many with Piers Morgan. The debate is always about what needs to be done to stop gun violence. The compromise always laid out is stricter control by government. Nevermind that the areas of the shooting do not allow guns to be there. The discussion is never framed about taking away existing laws. It is always about more control to the state. More mental health monitoring by the state is another brought up by both the left and the right. Well how exactly do we do this? Have the state do mandatory testing on its citizens?? really?
Just pick any issue and the debate is always about getting more laws in place so we can stop this atrocity or the next. People honestly believe that if we just throw more people in prison....our world would become a safer place. Let me clue you in.....we incarcerate more citizens than any other country in the world....and we are not safer.
Obesity......address the problem with more laws, make Happy Meals illegal, 16oz soft drinks the limit, make trans fats illegal......more and more government power.
Terrorism .......more government control over the people. Sexual assaults and naked photos to be taken of us at the airports by TSA. Now TSA is moving out onto the highways. What is next in our schools doing this to our children?
Drugs...more government control.....drug war means the government has the right to tell you what you can or cannot do. What about getting rid of all laws? Why should it be a crime to become "high" when alcohol is legal?
We could go on with this for days. Raw milk, prostitution, war...any example you want to give. The compromise is always to get more government control.
Enough is enough I say. Let us start compromising by repealing existing laws...and instead of getting rid of them all, lets compromise and only get rid of half of them.
